The Little Black Dress That's A Little Too Little

With the weather allll over the place, I’m still trying to figure out what I’m supposed to be wearing. I’ve been eyeing this T by Alexander Wang cotton dress in my closet for a few weeks now. It’s a simple, soft, black tank dress with spaghetti straps. I got it about six years ago and,  in my killer-shape-single-days, I wore this as-is during summer months. Now it feels a little...exposed. It’s just super clingy and offers zero barrier between any bumps or lumps and the public eye. Or at least that’s how I feel. Still, I haven’t been willing to part with it.

I put it on with an oversize (soft, not wool!) cozy sweater from H&M that mostly camouflages the areas I’m not trying to put on blast. Then everything was very muted, so I grabbed this tassel necklace from my girl Lele Sadoughi and also painted on a deep wine colored lip from NARS.

I could have easily worn sandals but I’ve been dying to wear these new Isabel Marant Etoile booties I got on Gilt a few months ago. YES, that’s correct, I did buy something new. However, I’m making an effort to curate a closet with more chic yet comfortable/wearable items. Too many of my boots have heels that aren’t conducive to walking or can’t be worn in the rain (these can!). So I’m definitely going to be eliminating those hard-to-wear items in the coming months. Well, if it ever starts to cool off here. I’ve never been in any kind of hurry for colder weather in my entire life! But this crazy #summerfall is really throwing off my closet-wearing schedule. I’m VERY ready to put my summer clothes away and unearth the scary pile of next season’s victims.

OutFIT or LeaveIT?: I’ve decided the dress gets to stay but it can really only be thought of/worn as a layering piece or something I wear under much bigger things. Alas, I think its solo days are over, much like its owner’s. I’m cool with that.
